Yongkang Street 永康街 in Taipei is one of those very popular streets somewhere outside of Taipei's center, but has its own unique atmosphere and is not yet flooded by tourists. Well, at least not the most part of it. It's located in Daan district, very close to the Daan Forest Park. One of the biggest magnets in the area is the famous and popular restaurant Din Tai Fung, a world famous xiaolongbao restaurant. Many Japanese restaurants like to visit it, as it's heavily advertised as one of the must-see places in Taipei. But also locals and visitors from other countries love to dine here. There's also another restaurant in the area called Golden Chicken Garden, which is cheaper and less crowded, however the food is equally delicious. Aside from famous restaurants and smaller food places, Yongkang Street offers shops and cafés and I usually go there to meet friends for a cup of coffee. Many coffee shops are very famous there and the atmosphere is very relaxed. People in the 20s, 30s love to hang out there, many students, too. The whole area has a very slow pace, not many cars or scooters around there, the noise level is low, too. And a small park in the middle of the area makes it much more interesting.
Enjoy some of my photos of Yongkang street:

To visit Yongkang Street, take the MRT to Dongmen Station (Yellow or Xinzhuang Line). Once you exit, you will be very close to Din Tai Fung as well as the Yongkang Street. The area is very small, everything can be reached by walking.

@Sarah: Hey girl, you read better than me :P
Hi, can i check if Daan Forrest near Yongkang street? I am planning to go Daan Forrest in the morning & go Yongkang street for lunch at Din Tai Fung.
Please advise.
Thank you.
Michelle
@Anonymous: Yes, you can. They are very close, about 4-10 minutes apart by foot. Don't miss to see the Grand Mosque as well.
I am confused as from your blog Daan Forrest we have to take MRT to Daan Station (brown line) & if go yongkang we have to take MRT to Guting Station (green line).
Could you please help to advise if it work for my below plan:
10.30am to Daan Station/Grand Mosque (walk over to Yongkang for Lunch)
12.00pm to Din Tai Fung for Lunch
Is Sogo & Hello Kitty Cafe nearby Yongkang as I am planning after lunch go to Sogo to shop around and follow by tea break at Hello Kitty Cafe and follow by Ningxia Night Market.
Hence, is it a walking distance between Din Tai Fung & Sogo & Hello Kitty Cafe?
Michelle
@Michelle: Hi Michelle. I made a mistake with Guting, sorry. I updated this post and also added a link to Din Tai Fung. When I wrote this post, the Dongmen Station wasn't built yet, but now it's the best way to reach Yongkang Street and Din Tai Fung (it's literally next to the restaurant).
I have no idea about Hello Kitty Cafe and Sogo, but everything's so close by there, you can simply walk. I would say your plan is ok, it will work. Ningxia Night Market is in Zhongshan, it's in a different area, I hope you know that. And don't go to a night market before 6pm, because the best stalls won't open that early.
Have fun in Taipei :)
