Tainan High-Speed Railway Station

Tainan's ultramodern gateway to the city

Clean and modern is what one thinks, when he alights at the Tainan THSR Station.

Tainan High-Speed Railway Station or 高鐵臺南站 is the city's modern entrance point. Located around 15km south from Tainan Railway Station, it's not too far from the city's downtown. Nowadays there is a direct railway connection through the Shalun Line, see a map here. But for your convenience, there are cabs and free shuttle buses right outside the station. My wife and I took one and we needed about 30 mins to reach central Tainan. The bus stops at several stops, which was very convenient for us, because it stopped in the area near our hotel.

Here you can buy tickets.

Free shuttle bus on the far right.

I actually find that the location of the HSR station is quite inconvenient, it is really in the middle of nowhere.
Having taken the train there to go to Kaohsiung, it took me longer to go from Tainan town centre to the station than from Tainan to Kaohsiung...
Nice station though. They should develop the area a bit more.

@Arnaud: Well, you have a point, but because I took the free shuttle bus right after coming out of the station, it wasn't any problem to me. Maybe the way back is, but we later went to Jiayi with normal train, so I didn't have this experience. Maybe there are plans to expand the city southwards, I hope so.
